Skjerjehamn, 2 July 2010 – Furundringsflåten Fish Farming Display Centre
Today Firda Seafood is opening its display centre in beautiful Skjerjehamn in Gulen Municipality. If you wonder whether you have heard the name Skjerjehamn before, think of Knut Steen’s giant statue of late King Olav V. It towers over Skjerjehamn and has become a real landmark.
The idea behind the centre, located on a concrete barge by the guest harbour in Skjerjehamn, is to provide an insight into modern fish farming operations; technology, monitoring (environmental factors and cameras), health and the environment, biology, fish feed and feed utilisation.
The centre has been prepared and designed by the VilVite (“Want to Know”) Bergen Science Centre and is a co-operative project involving Firda, VilVite, the equipment producer Ocea and the feed producer Ewos. The centre has adopted a pedagogic approach in the same style as Bergen Science Centre and has already been adapted to the school curriculum (the article continues under the map)

Ocea congratulates Firda with an impressive and innovative display centre! We are proud and happy to be able to contribute with technology, equipment and expertise from operational fish farming activities; with a main focus on Ocea Live, Ocea SensorStation environmental station and cameras (both above and below water). Data and pictures shown at the Forundringsflåten Display Centre come from one of Firda’s installations about 8 kilometres away.
